Meetings will be held electronically and in accordance with Amended Ordinance adopted by Chesapeake City Council on April 28, 2020, to effectuate temporary changes in certain deadlines and to modify public meeting and public hearing practices and procedures to address continuity of operations associated with pandemic disaster. Extension of these temporary changes is in accordance with the Amended Ordinance adopted by Chesapeake City Council on September 8, 2020. The Parks, Recreation and Tourism Advisory Board shall act in an advisory capacity to the director of parks, recreation and tourism in all matters relating to parks, recreational and tourism activities and operations in the city to include matters pertaining to advertising, marketing, and long range plans for visitor services, conventions and related hospitality activities. Additionally, the board shall serve on other matters brought before the board by the director of the department. The advisory board shall perform other such duties as may be assigned to the board by city council. The board may form one or more subcommittees to deal with short-term measurement tools and indicators that will help successfully gauge the state of parks, recreation and/or tourism activities and operations in the city and/or to study any related topic of interest within the department to include the areas associated with the arts, environmental, historical, hospitality and/or leisure industry. The City of Chesapeake Parks, Recreation and Tourism Advisory Board consists of 17 voting members and 5 ex officio non-voting members appointed by City Council. The ex officio non-voting positions shall be filled as follows: one youth representative selected from the various high schools throughout the city on a yearly rotating basis, and one representative each from the Great Bridge Battlefield and Waterways History Foundation, the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, Chesapeake Public Schools and the Chesapeake Conference Center.
