Community Service and Truancy
This program offers at risk youth, ages 14-18, the opportunity to gain environmental education and conduct community service projects in an informal atmosphere. While learning about the environment and "green" opportunities, youth are working to benefit the community by completing the community service hours required of them.
Activities are conducted Monday thru Friday as well as some Saturdays. Projects range from neighborhood clean-ups, trail maintenance, to recycling projects.
Sites include Schools, Community Centers, Military Installations, Chesapeake Parks, the Chesapeake Arboretum and Federal and State Parks.
The purpose of this program is to develop and maintain a coordinated inter-agency response to truancy. Specifically, this program provides case management to truant youth and their families in an attempt to divert offenders from detention or other out-of-home placements and ensure school attendance.
