Promoting Safe and Stable Families
This is a federal prevention program funded through the State of Virginia. Localities are required to provide family support, family preservation and time limited reunification services to families whose children may be at risk of out-of-home placement. There is a wide variety of services to provide family support and family preservation. Efforts are to keep children safely at home and in the community. Reunification funds are available to birth parents whose children are in foster care and who are making progress towards reuniting with their children. Services are provided with the goal of bringing children back into their home within the first 12 months, and no longer than 15 months, that the children are in foster care.
