Fire Station 10, located on Homestead Road in the rural Bowers Hill section of the City, is home to Engine 10 and Brush Truck 10. The existing building, which was opened in 1971, has served as a combination Fire Station/Police Precinct until March of 1997.
Fire Station 10 protects a mix of residential, commercial, and industrial complexes including the Hampton Roads Airport. This Third District Station is located in the heavily traveled junctions of Route 58, Route 460, Interstate 64 and Interstate 664. As the volume of vehicular traffic has increased so has the call volume and station personnel’s level preparedness.
Engine 10 is a 2008 Pierce Quantum PUC with a command cab. It has a 1500 gpm pump and an 850 gallon booster tank. Engine 10 is an ALS engine company and is staffed with four Firefighters. It also has a Husky Foam system with the capabilities to flow Class A & Class B foam.
Brush Truck 10 is a 2012 Ford F350 4-wheel drive brush unit with pump and roll capabilities. It has a 150 gpm Hale pump with a 200 gallon tank. This brush truck can handle extreme off-road terrain to combat grass or forest fires that may quickly spread from its original source and jump gaps such as roads or rivers.
