Street Lighting
There are currently over 25,000 streetlights throughout the City with an annual operating cost of over $3.3 million. Most of the streetlights are maintained by Dominion Virginia Power.
Requesting a New Street Light
The City has a petition process for the installation of street lights in existing neighborhoods. Any citizen requesting a new street light will be sent a petition that requires 51% approval of the residents who would be directly affected by the new light. To request a new street light and petition, call the Customer Contact Center at 382-CITY (2489) or email the Traffic Engineering Division of the Department of Public Works at trafficengineering@cityofchesapeake.net.
Reporting a Street Light Outage
To report a street light outage, contact Dominion Virginia Power at www.DOM.com or call 1-866-DOM-HELP. You can also contact the Customer Contact Center at 757-382-CITY (2489) or submit your request to the City online and we'll be happy to report your concerns to Dominion Virginia Power for repairs.
