We’re all looking forward to the beauty of spring but the time to start preparing for that is now. If you’re part of a community group hoping to do a beautification project this year, you might qualify for a funding opportunity from the Chesapeake Environmental Improvement Council (CEIC).
The CEIC’s mission is to promote interest in improving the environment in our City and that’s just what beautification projects can do. Whether it be the installation of a new garden full of native plants or the reclamation of an overgrown eyesore, beautification projects can transform a community and heal the local environment.
There are some criteria for qualifying projects. They must be done on city-owned land and must be feasible to both install and maintain. Your group can submit their proposal to the CEIC using an online form located at CityofChesapeake.net/CEIC or call 382-6411 for more information. Deadline to submit a proposal is March 31.
If you don’t have a project to submit but want to support the program, funds for this program come from the purchase of the Chesapeake specialty license plate. The plate costs $25 each year of which $15 goes towards local beautification projects. You can request the plate for one of your vehicles by contacting the DMV.
