The 2020 Census is moving into its next phase: direct contact. Since mid-March, the online 2020 Census survey has been available and many people in Chesapeake have already taken it. Thank you if that’s you! If you haven’t taken it yet, here’s what you can expect.
You may soon receive an email from 2020census@subscriptions.census.gov. The email will have a link that will take you directly to the online Census form. All you have to do is click, take 10 minutes to fill out the survey, and you’re all done.
If you have not already taken the Census by August 11, you might receive a knock on your door from a Census enumerator. If this happens, the first thing you should do is ask to see their valid ID badge which should have their photograph and the U.S. Department of Commerce watermark. They’ll likely also be carrying some other materials that will have the Census logo on them. If you still have questions on whether or not the person is a real Census enumerator, you can call 844-330-2020 to verify. This person will be at your door to help make sure you and your household get counted so it’s important to give them about 10 minutes of your time.
All of this contact can be avoided by taking the Census right away. You can do so online at my2020Census.gov or by calling 844-330-2020.
