Summer time means farmers markets and thankfully, not even COVID-19 can keep us away from our fresh local produce. There are lots of different options this year. The newest option is great for people who would prefer to do their shopping virtually. Healthy Chesapeake is hosting an online farmer’s market. You can choose from a variety of vendors selling fresh produce, baked goods, meats, and prepared food. Ordering is easy and all online. Just place your order by Saturday to pick up your items on Tuesday afternoon at Big Ugly Brewing on Battlefield Blvd. Learn more and place your order at HealthyChesapeake.org.
For the traditionalists, the outdoor Chesapeake Farmer’s Market is still an option. You’ll find the market at City Park on Saturdays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please continue to practice social distancing and wear a mask.
Perhaps you’re actually your own personal farmer and you have crops piling up from your own garden. You might consider participating in the Plant a Row for the Hungry program. On Tuesdays through the end of September from 9 a.m. to Noon, you can drop off your extra produce to the Central Library. This fresh food will be donated to the hungry right here in our community. It’s a great chance to help your neighbors. Learn more at the Master Gardener’s Website, CMGV.org
