The next election is on Tuesday, May 5. The Mayor and several City Council and School Board positions will be on the ballot. There are a few deadlines coming up and some new suggestions in light of COVID-19.
The first deadline is April 13 for voter registration. This can be done completely online at Elections.Virginia.Gov. Paper applications are also available.
In light of COVID-19, the Virginia Department of Elections is encouraging voters to vote absentee. You must apply to vote absentee by April 28. The quickest and easiest way to do this is online at the website mentioned above. You can also apply by mailing your completed application to the Chesapeake Voter Registration Office at 411 Cedar Rd (23322), emailing it to mlpinkerman@cityofchesapeake.net, or faxing it to 757-547-5402. For your reason for voting absentee, just select “My disability or illness” if applying online which is Code 2A if applying with a paper application.
We understand there may be more questions or concerns regarding voting this year because of COVID-19. The Chesapeake Voter Registrar’s Office is here to help. If you have specific concerns, give them a call at 757-277-9797.
