If your only experience with police is when they’re at your car window after you went a little too fast through the neighborhood, then you’re missing out on all the amazing things they do for our community! A great way to learn all about the Chesapeake Police Department is through the Citizen’s Police Academy.
The Chesapeake Citizen’s Police Academy is an interactive 14-session course covering the many facets of the Police Department. It gives citizens an opportunity to see firsthand what our officers do each day. You’ll learn about the SWAT and the K-9 units. You’ll see the forensics labs and the jail. You’ll get to do a ride along and experience the firearms range.
This year’s spring session starts in April but the deadline to apply is coming up on March 18. You must be at least 18 years old, a Chesapeake citizen, and able to pass a criminal background check in order to participate.
Perhaps the best take away you’ll get from the Citizen’s Police Academy is getting to know some of the men and women who serve your City day after day. To learn more and to apply for the spring session, visit CityofChesapeake.net/Police or call 382-1525.
