If online shopping is your thing, your front porch is likely a busy spot this time of year. There’s nothing like the anticipation of knowing a package will be on your doorstep when you get home from work! Until you get home to find that package has been snatched. Unfortunately, it happens, but there are a few things you can do to help avoid it.
- Require a signature for all your deliveries. That way if you’re not home to sign, they won’t leave the package.
- If you’re ordering from Amazon, have your packages delivered to a nearby locker.
- Sign up for delivery alerts and monitor tracking numbers so that you know where your package is at all times.
- Make a deal with your neighbors that if they spot a package on your porch, they’ll get it and hold it until you come home. And offer to do the same for them.
If you do have a package stolen from your front porch, report it to the non-emergency police number, 382-6161 (unless you’re watching it as it happens, in which case you can call 911). The Chesapeake Police Department tracks crimes and can direct their patrols based on what’s being reported.
