Connecting Chesapeake

Connecting Chesapeake Graphic

Hampton Roads Transit wants to hear from you! HRT is conducting a high-capacity transit study for the City of Chesapeake. As the City grows, the need for various forms of transportation evolves. The combination of more residents and a growing job market leads to an increased volume of commuters on City roads. To address this traffic growth, HRT is hosting Connecting Chesapeake pop-up events and open houses to garner opinions from the public concerning alternate transportation.

The exploration of high-capacity transit will occur in two phases. First, HRT will listen to community input and determine the feasibility of multiple transportation concepts, such as an Express Bus, Bus Rapid Transit, and Light Rail. Each option has unique benefits which is explained in depth through HRT’S Connecting Chesapeake video on YouTube. The second phase will consist of project experts compiling community input and determining if proposed plans align with the City’s growth areas and data. This phase will consider traffic impacts, construction costs, design concepts, ridership forecasts, and more.

To participate in shaping Chesapeake’s future transportation plans, please attend a Connecting Chesapeake meeting:
