Chesapeake City Council has passed a resolution to extend the deadline for payment of the 2023 Personal Property Taxes from June 5 to June 30. Council has also directed City Treasurer Barbara Carraway not to impose penalties and interest as long as the taxes are paid no later than June 30. The deadline extension comes in response to the delay in mailing out personal property tax bills from the City Treasurer. As Treasurer, Barbara Carraway is an elected official and is only accountable to the voters and not to City Council or the City Manager, however this is one of the few steps that City Council has the authority to take in order to address community concerns that Ms. Carraway is unable to address. All other tax bill due dates remain unchanged.
