The City of Chesapeake will host a Virtual Meeting to share information on the Etheridge Manor Blvd. Sidewalk Installation project, beginning June 10, 2021. Visit bit.ly/etheridgeSW starting June 10 to learn more and provide your feedback on the project. The formal feedback period for this meeting ends on June 20, 2021.
The Etheridge Manor Blvd. Sidewalk Installation Project area is currently a two-lane divided roadway which links the Hanbury Shopping Center to Hillwell Road, and to the adjacent residential neighborhoods along Etheridge Manor Blvd. Currently, there are no continuous sidewalks or dedicated pedestrian facilities. Pedestrians must navigate along the shoulder of the roadway and utilize footpaths along the side of the road which are not ADA-accessible.
The purpose of this project is to provide a safe and pedestrian friendly connection between the Hanbury Shopping Center, Hillwell Road, and the surrounding Etheridge Manor Blvd. neighborhoods. The project consists of the installation of 5-foot wide concrete sidewalk, ADA sidewalk ramps, and painted crosswalks within the existing right-of-way on the south side of Hanbury Road from the Hanbury Shopping Center to Hillwell Road, and on both sides of Etheridge Manor Blvd. from the Cooper's Ditch Bridge to River Gates Road.
The project also includes pedestrian crossing improvements involving new pedestrian displays, pushbuttons, and crosswalks at the two signalized intersections of the Hanbury Shopping Center/Benson Road, and Hillwell Road.
