The Vice and Narcotics Section of the Chesapeake Police Department is responsible for investigating illegal narcotics distribution, prostitution, illegal narcotics overdoses, and illegal gambling within the city. These investigations range from street-level interdiction to long-term complex cases. These cases often lead to working with federal law enforcement partners and federal prosecution.
This Section conducts training in drug detection and recognition for Patrol Officers and conducts any special investigations as directed by the Chief of Police.
The Vice and Narcotics Section is also partnered with the Chesapeake Police Department Gang Unit.
The Gang Unit is responsible for intelligence gathering related to gang activity and building criminal cases involving gang members. The Gang Unit also suppresses gang activity and its growth through direct intervention and educational seminars.
Lastly, the Vice and Narcotics Section has concurrent jurisdiction and responsibility with the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Commission (ABC) for reviewing all businesses in the City of Chesapeake applying for an alcoholic beverage license.
