911 Emergency Communications
The Emergency Communications Center is the 911 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for citizens and visitors to the City of Chesapeake, Virginia needing assistance from Police, Fire, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Animal Services in emergency and non-emergency situations. All public safety personnel are dispatched and tracked by emergency communications personnel.

Ethics & Conduct Unit
The Ethics and Conduct Unit is located within the Support Bureau. The Ethics and Conduct Section’s primary function is to investigate alleged or suspected misconduct by Department members. In addition to the primary function, the Ethics and Conduct Section performs the multiple other tasks.

Honor Guard Unit
The Chesapeake Police Department Honor Guard serves as an Official representative for the Police Department and the Chief of Police. When requested, the Honor Guard also represents the City of Chesapeake as determined by the Chief of Police.

Planning Unit
The Police Planner performs detailed research and analysis on various topics of concern to the Department, assists with preparing the Department's annual budget presentation, constructs and analyzes citizen surveys in conjunction with Community Policing, provides statistical reports to the Chief of Police, City Manager and other agencies, compiles and prints the Department's Annual Report that summarizes Department statistics each year.

Police Chaplain Unit
The volunteer corps of ministers provides emotional and spiritual support and counsel upon request to police personnel, their families, and community members. Duties include ride-along participation with on-duty officers, offering of prayers at specified functions, assisting officers with notifications related to death or traumatic incidents, personal counseling, and other related ministerial services and appropriate.

Police Explorer Post
Chesapeake's Law Enforcement Explorer Post is a co-ed group of young adults between the ages of 14 and 20 interested in pursuing a career in the field of law enforcement.

Standards & Research Unit
The Police Department's Standards and Research Unit is responsible for research, development, review, and revision of the Police Department's Policy and Procedures Manual and the Standard Operating Procedures that guide the actions of the various Units, Sections and Bureaus within the Department.

Training Academy
The Chesapeake Law Enforcement Training Academy is certified by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice (DCJS). The mission of the Academy is to provide the highest quality of training to the law enforcement community.
