The Audit Services Department conducts performance, financial, and special audits of City departments and functions on a selected basis to determine if City policies, regulations, and control procedures are functioning as intended, and if City services are being provided in an effective, efficient, economical, ethical, and equitable manner within the context of the statutory boundaries.
Performance audits provide objective analysis so that management and those charged with governance and oversight can use the information to improve program performance and operations, reduce costs, facilitate decision-making by parties with responsibilities to oversee or initiate corrective action, and contribute to public accountability.
The department also conducts investigations of complaints received on the City's Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Hotline, at 757-382-2489; assists the City's external auditors with their financial annual audit; and provides assistance to other audit and investigative entities as necessary.
