Overview

The commission shall serve as the steering committee for the Chesapeake Thrives Plan ("plan"). In its capacity as the steering committee, the commission shall be responsible to provide governance, oversight, and guidance to the Chesapeake Thrives Coalition as they work to implement the plan. Additionally, the commission shall act in an advisory capacity to the City Council in considering issues dealing with the health and well-being of Chesapeake citizens, including, but not limited to, the prevention, education, and treatment of substance abuse, the prevention of AIDS, health initiatives on cancer, diabetes, obesity, bullying, and other such duties as may be assigned to the commission by City Council, and make its recommendations to City Council.
