City Surveyor

Surveys of the City are a common occurrence. Survey crews gather information that is needed by Engineering to plan and design City projects or improvements to existing facilities.

A survey records geographic conditions and man-made features as they currently exist. Typical information collected includes: terrain, drainage, property boundaries and ownership, soil condition and other physical features.

Stakes placed by the survey party are used for planning and future reference. They should be left undisturbed. If survey stakes cause problems for property owners, email the City Surveyor or call 757-382-6284.

Information is maintained on Chesapeake's network of over 250 horizontal and vertical reference points. These reference points meet or exceed standards of accuracy and specifications for Second Order, Class II, as required by State Code 55-294. The reference recovery datasheets for these points can be viewed online.
