APPLICANTS NEEDED FOR CITY BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS

CHESAPEAKE -- The Chesapeake City Council is seeking residents who may be interested in serving on various boards and commissions. Boards and commissions provide a vital service to various City departments, agencies and City Council.

Citizens wishing to serve must complete an application form. Applications are due in the City Clerk’s office by June 2, 2008. City Council will appoint candidates for these vacancies during its June 24, 2008, meeting.

Applications are currently being accepted for the following Boards and Commissions:
         

• Board of Historic & Architectural Review, 1 appointment
• Chesapeake Bicycle/Trails Advisory Committee, 1 appointment
• Chesapeake Redevelopment and Housing Authority, 3 appointments
• Eastern Virginia Medical School, 1 appointment
• Fine Arts Commission, 2 appointments
• Mosquito Control Commission, 3 appointments
• South Norfolk Revitalization Commission, 3 appointments

In addition, applications are currently being accepted for the following previously advertised vacancies:

• Animal Control Advisory Board, 1 appointment
          (Must be a member of the Humane Society)
• Chesapeake City Symbol Committee, 8 appointments
• Chesapeake Commission for the Prevention of AIDS, 4 appointments
          (One applicant must be HIV Positive & one must be a medical professional)
• Chesapeake Commission on Substance Abuse, 1 appointment
• Chesapeake Interagency Consortium, 1 appointment
          (Must be a Private Organization Representative)
• Community Services Board, 1 appointment
          (Must be a consumer)
• Groundwater Committee, 3 appointments
• South Hampton Roads Disability Services Board, 1 appointment
          (Must be physically impaired)
