DISMAL SWAMP CANAL TRAIL PUBLIC MEETING SET
CHESAPEAKE, VA – The City of Chesapeake Public Works Department has set a public meeting regarding the Dismal Swamp Canal Trail Design Project on Thursday, March 6, 2008. The meeting begins with a formal presentation at 5:30 p.m., followed by an open house until 7:30 p.m., at Cedar Road Elementary School Gymnasium located at 1605 Cedar Road in Chesapeake.
The design team invites the public to share ideas for improving the existing trail and related amenities. The workshop will include a presentation regarding the trail project’s history, design plans consisting of trail
striping, road intersection treatments, and the addition of restrooms, parking, and boating facilities. After the formal presentation, citizens will have an opportunity to discuss the project with the design team, ask questions, and provide comments.

The Dismal Swamp Canal Trail is now open to bicyclers, walkers, runners, equestrians and boaters. The trails thread through some of the most uniquely historical and ecologically-significant habitats in the United States.
