Chesapeake Observes Halloween on October 31
CHESAPEAKE — Halloween "trick-or-treat" activities will be observed in Chesapeake on Wednesday, October 31, for children ages 12 and under only, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Chesapeake Sheriff's Office will screen Halloween candy that night from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., at the Circuit Court building.
Here are a few safety tips to make this Halloween a safe one:
-
Young children should be with an adult when trick-or-treating
-
Children should wear light-colored clothing
-
A flashlight should be carried so that you can see and be seen
-
Be alert for traffic, and cross streets at corners
-
Costumes should be made from flame-resistant fabrics
-
Candy should be inspected prior to eating
The candy screening service is free to all citizens. Court deputies will use the x-ray screening equipment to determine if any foreign objects have been inserted into the treats. The procedure will not detect any type of chemical alteration.
A variety of special Halloween-related events are planned for sites throughout the City. Information can be found on CityOfChesapeake.net or by calling the Customer Contact Center at 382-CITY (2489).
