LANES CLOSED ON GEORGE WASHINGTON HIGHWAY OVERPASS
| AFFECTED AREA: | George Washington Highway (Route 17 Business), between Military Highway and the I-64 interchange |
| DATES: | Begins December 1, 2006. Work will continue until Spring 2008. |
| DETAILS: | The City is reconstructing the Wellons-Forehand overpass on George Washington Highway over Yadkin Road and the Norfolk Southern railroad line. The $3,625,490 project will strengthen the existing bridge abutments, replace the approach slabs and replace approximately 600 feet of roadway. The work will consist of two primary phases of construction in which half of the bridge will be closed at a time; however, at least one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction for the duration of the project. |
