PRECINCT CHANGES

2007 Precinct Changes

EFFECTIVE NOVEMBER 6, 2007 and all future elections

2007 Precinct Changes (printer friendly format)

• 0009 - The Bells Mill precinct has been relocated to Grassfield High School located at 2007 Grizzly Trail.

• 0017 - The Indian Creek precinct has been relocated to Crossroads Community Church located at 2109 Centerville Turnpike.

• 0032 - The Providence precinct has been relocated to Dr. Clarence V. Cuffee Community Center located at 2019 Windy Road.

• 0052 – The John T. West precinct (0041) located at the New Light Baptist Church located at 2418 Cedar Road has been divided. The new precinct will be named Shipyard Road precinct and vote at Deep Creek Central Elementary School located at 2448 Shipyard Road.

• 0053 – The Greenbrier precinct (0007) located at the Greenbrier Library located at 1214 Greenbrier Parkway has been divided. The new precinct will be named Fairways precinct and vote at Greenbrier Church located at 1101 Volvo Parkway.

All affected voters have been mailed a new voter card as required by the Virginia Election Laws 24.2-310, 2003 ED.

2005 Precinct Changes

EFFECTIVE NOVEMBER 8, 2005 and all future elections

1. The South Norfolk Fire Precinct (#30) has been relocated across the street to Chesapeake Christian Center located at 300 Liberty Street. This change will take effect for the November 8, 2005 Election and all future elections.    Photo of precinct

2. The Johnson Park Precinct (#26) has been relocated to South Norfolk Baptist Church located at 1101 Chesapeake Avenue. This change will take effect for the November 8, 2005 Election and all future elections.    Photo of precinct

3. The Hickory Middle School Precinct (#34) located at the Hickory Middle School at 1997 Hawk Boulevard has been divided. The new precinct will be named Cooper’s Way Precinct (#51) and vote at New Life Christian Ministries at 1116 Hillwell Road. This change will take effect for the November 8, 2005 Election and all future elections.

All affected voters have been mailed a new voter card
as required by the Virginia Election Laws 24.2-310, 2003 ED.

REQUIRED IDENTIFICATION AT THE POLLS

Virginia voters MUST provide identification at the polls on Election Day. Acceptable forms of identification include:

• Virginia voter identification card

• Virginia driver's license

• Military ID

• Federal, state or local government ID

• Employer issued photo ID card

• Social Security card

Some registered voters without identification at the polls may still vote if they sign an Affirmation of Identification form. The exception would be those who registered to vote by mail and are voting in Virginia for the first time. Those voters will be required to show identification and would be unable to sign an Affirmation of Identification form.

POLLING PLACE HOURS

All Chesapeake Polling locations open at 6:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m. Those in line to vote at 7:00 p.m. will be allowed to vote.

The Chesapeake Electoral Board is looking for civic-minded individuals who wish to serve as Officers of Election. An Officer of Election serves as a poll worker on Election Day in one of the 50 precincts in Chesapeake.

An Officer of Election:

• Works at a precinct close to their home.

• Helps prepare the polling place for voting but setting up voting equipment, posting signs, etc.

• Aids citizens in the voting process by verifying voter information, distributing ballots, demonstrating voting equipment, etc.

• Helps close the polling place by dismantling equipment, assist Chief Officer in reporting voting results, etc.

Officers of Election work from 5:15 a.m. until the poll closes (after clean up and recording the results, approximately 8:00 p.m.) and are compensated for their service:

$ 90.00 for working on Election Day

$ 25.00 for attending a training class
