Public Communications Department
Meet our
Director of Public Communications
for Mayor's Youth Day 2007
Jordan Mooring
My name is Jordan Mooring, and I am a senior at Indian River High School. Throughout my high school career I have been given the opportunity to be involved in SCA, National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Quill and Scroll, Key Club, Pals 4 Peers, Spanish Club, The Chesapeake Student Leadership Forum, and the VHSL Leadership Conference. I plan to attend Old Dominion University in the fall of 2007.
Before coming to Mayor's Youth Day 2007, I already knew I wanted to go into the Communications field. I've researched the field requirements, but I really had no idea what to expect. Mayor's Youth Day 2007 gave me an amazing opportunity that most people do not receive; it gave me a day to experience something I want to make a life out of. I was always worried that I might be picking the wrong field. It's not like choosing an after-school job; it's choosing a career. What if after four years of college I realized I made a mistake? What would I do then? That isn't a concern anymore, though, because after running around all day, doing a broadcast, learning about the studio and the work that goes into it, I can honestly picture myself in the Communications field.
When I meet with my advisors this summer to plan classes, I will be confident with my choices, and I will go into Old Dominion with a clear goal. My career will not start with my first job; it started today.
I would like to thank everyone in the Public Communications Department for taking time out of their schedule to teach me today. They turned Mayor's Youth Day 2007 into an experience I will never forget.
