Michelle England
My name is Michelle England and I am a senior at Great Bridge High School. I am actively involved in many clubs and organizations at my school, including Senior Class Office, National Honor Society, Anchor Club, National Art Honor Society, and Latin Club. Additionally, I am a captain of the Varsity softball team and participate in the Chesapeake Student Leadership Forum. Next year, I am headed to Virginia Commonwealth University to major in graphic design and advertising. After college graduation, I hope to establish for myself a career in layout design or with an advertising firm.
When the opportunity to participate in Mayor's Youth Day came about, I jumped onboard. I was extremely excited when the position of Director of Public Communications was offered, since public communications is a career path I have always considered. My mentors during Mayor's Youth Day provided me with invaluable advice and insight into the world of communications. I have experienced only a sliver of what is actually involved in the process of preparing a news broadcast, and have already gained an immense appreciation for those whose job it is to inform the public. I am very thankful to the individuals who organized this day, as well as to my mentors for taking the day to "show me the ropes." At the beginning I was unsettled as to what to expect, but that quickly changed due to the approachability of my mentors, as well as the quick friendships formed with the other students in the Public Communications Department. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to participate in Mayor's Youth Day. It is an experience that I will never forget.
