Central Records – Central Records serves as the repository of all Department records, and is located on the 2nd Floor of Police Headquarters. Records are maintained for a period determined by the Library of Virginia. Some information is releasable to citizens through either a Freedom of Information Act request or through a Subpoena Duces Tecum. Central Records also processes record checks for citizens, Concealed Weapon Permit applications and Taxi Permit applications.
Property & Equipment – Property and Equipment is responsible for issuing uniforms and equipment for officers to use in the field. The cost of the initial issue of uniforms and equipment is $6,721.80 per officer. Property and Equipment maintains an inventory of $400,000 in equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
Fleet Management – Fleet Management is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the fleet of 291 marked and unmarked vehicles and 43 specialty units. Part of the fleet is comprised of approximately 175 Community Resident Vehicles, which increases police presences in the community and reduces response time and maintenance costs. The fleet is driven approximately 5 million miles annually.
Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) – VCIN is a computer network linked to the National Criminal Information Network and to the Department of Motor Vehicles that provides an exchange of information. Lost/stolen property, wanted persons, and lost persons are entered on the network. Officers utilize VCIN as an investigative tool in the field through their lap top computers or the Emergency Dispatch Center.
Asset Inventory – The Department maintains an accurate inventory of all its assets. An annual audit is performed to ensure its accuracy.
