Fire Applicants

    Fire Department Frequently Asked Questions:

    • “I took the test in OCT 2006 and participated in the panel interview. I am on the Eligibility List dated March 7, 2007.  When will I hear something?
      • The Eligibility List dated March 7, 2007 expires on March 7, 2008. If you do not hear from CFD before March 7, 2008, you must restart the entire process. The next exam will be advertised on the CLICK system 6 – 8 weeks prior to the exam date. You must resubmit your special Fire Application to the new exam CLICK posting. CLICK “General Applications” are not accepted.
    • “I took the exam in April 2007.  What is my status?
      • The Fire Department will contact you directly for the next step. Keep the Fire Department advised directly of any contact information changes (757-382-6297/6497). If you are placed on the new Eligibility List, your status will be active for one year from the date the Eligibility List is generated. In order to participate in the next exam, you must resubmit your Special Fire application to the new CLICK posting. You will not be personally notified of the next exam date – you must periodically check the CLICK site.
    • “I have never taken or applied to take the exam – when is the next one and what do I need to do?
      • The next exam has not been scheduled. Go to the CLICK site and fill out the special Fire Entrance Exam Application. Once a date has been established, you will receive an email or phone notification of the date. You must then SUBMIT the application to the Exam posting in order to participate. Make sure you keep your contact information updated on the CLICK system. If you need assistance in filling out the Fire Entrance Exam application, please call 757-382-6492 during normal business hours (8 a.m. – 5 p.m. EST).

    Police Applicants

      POLICE ENTRANCE EXAM INFO:

    • The Police Entrance Exam scheduled for September 20, 2008 has been CANCELED.  The next examination date has been scheduled for December 13, 2008 at Grassfield High School, 2007 Grizzly Trail, Chesapeake, VA 23322.  It is highly recommended that you copy and paste the above address into www.mapquest.com.  Because the school is fairly new, you may have to search for the intersection: South Dominion Blvd (US 17) and Scenic Parkway.  If you have previously submitted an application to participate in the September 20, 2008, you will need to resubmit the application to the December 13, 2008 CLICK posting.

      Brush up on your Math skills and hear other tips to help you prepare for the exam.  Mark your calendar!

    • December 8, 2007 and March 22, 2008 Examination candidates – please keep your contact information updated. The Police Department (Det. Blount) is the main contact for changes or questions concerning this ongoing process.
