Parks & Recreation Department - Notable Yards 2009

INDIAN RIVER
Jack and Kathryn Fogelsonger
909 Shoal Creek Trail

Jack and Kathryn Fogelsonger’s yard has a European feel. It is a townhouse-style condominium that backs up to the Greenbrier Country Club golf course. The golf course serves as a lush green backdrop for a charming stone patio, two-level deck, pond with waterfall (built by Jack), raised brick beds, and masses of colorful pots with healthy, colorful flowers and plants—including vinca, azaleas, geraniums, callus, daylilies, hydrangeas, and more. “We have no particular color scheme,” said Kathryn. “Mother Nature uses every color and makes it look good.”

“We spend a lot of time outdoors in our backyard,” said Kathryn. “By 2:30 p.m., it is shady and quite pleasant.”

Several types of lighting make the backyard beautiful at night and more usable—including solar globe lights, strings of lights in the trees, and an outdoor floor lamp.

Bird feeders and water features make the yard inviting to wildlife—including the squirrels, rabbits, and birds.
