communications are vital for any parks and recreation
department The department's public communication
needs are met by Information Services, under the
direction of Cyndy Perkins. In order to keep
in touch with Chesapeake's citizens, the Department
of Parks and Recreation uses a number of promotional
approaches: 
- The Leisure Guide - a 32-page magazine which lists the recreational and leisure activites offered by the department
- Newsletters
- Public Service Announcements
- Flyers
- Comprehensive Monthly Calendar
- Maintains Parks and Recreations web pages on city website and much much more.
The LEISURE GUIDE won the international competition, The 2002 Communicator Award, in the brochure category.
