Swine Ordinance
The City of Chesapeake sets a code standards for keeping swine in an agriculture district only.
Regulations in keeping of swine within the City of Chesapeake (Section 10-18) enforce the property owner to keep the facility and pen location in sanitary manner, control of vegetation, and follow the feeding requirements. The Environmental Quality Control Committee has been appointed to review swine operations and make recommendations for corrective action when a violation is discovered.
Are potbellied pigs classified as swine?
Potbellied pigs are not classified as swine. A Vietnamese potbellied
pig may be kept as a pet in residential zoning district. However,
keeping a potbellied pig is subject to the Municipal Code requirements.
