The Circuit Court of the City of Chesapeake is a Court of general jurisdiction served by five (5) judges. The Court hears criminal and civil cases including divorce cases. In most cases, with the exception of divorce cases, any party is entitiled to a jury trial upon notice to the other parties and a request to the Clerk's Office made a reasonable time before the date the case is set for trial. The Court also hears appeals from decisions of the General and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Courts.

• Jurors are summoned to serve for a period of approximately 30 days, ultimately being responsible for only two (2) days a week, depending on the their group number. Potential jurors with questions, should call the Circuit Court Jury Office at

• Court hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

• Presentence and probation violation hearings commence at 8:30 a.m. each day but Wednesday.

• Motions are set every Wednesday by appointment only. Individuals wishing to schedule motions must call (757) 382-3074 for available dates and times.
