Intergovernmental Affairs/Youth & Family Services
Effective July 1, 2007, the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs was eliminated and two divisions within the Department of Neighborhood Services were created which include:
Office of Youth Services
The Office of Youth Services will serve as a central point of contact for youth and families needing support services. It will also be responsible for recommending and implementing policies affecting youth and their families.
Office of Housing
The Office of Housing will coordinate housing needs within the city of Chesapeake and to serve as a resource for citizens seeking housing, and to provide opportunities for fair access to quality housing. This office will ensure that the City complies with all local, State and Federal housing guidelines.
The Office of Housing administers the U. S. Department of
Housing & Urban Development's (HUD) Community
Development Block Grant Program for the City.

receives HUD funds and operates

These divisions will continue to provide staff support to the City Managers Office and the City Council appointed Chesapeake Youth Committee, as well as the multi-disciplinary, interagency Chesapeake Council On Youth Services.
Staff is responsible for administering, centralizing, and coordinating the Citys federal, state, and local grant program operations; the Citys Americans with Disabilities Act compliance programs; assisting with historic preservation efforts; and operating and managing the Citys Office of Youth Services; the Family Resources Center, the Community Development Block Grant Program and the HOME program.
