Code Compliance Division

The Code Compliance Division of Department of Development & Permits consists of two services:

Building Construction Section is required to enforce the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and the Statewide Fire Prevention Code.

The Code Compliance Division, Building Construction Section requires that a building permit be obtained from the Department of Development & Permits to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, conver, or demolish any building or structure.

Applications for all permits are filed at the City Hall, 2nd floor, Department of Development & Permits , 306 Cedar Road. No construction may commence until the application is approved and fees have been paid. No building or structure can occupied until a certificate of occupancy is issued.
