Parks and Facilities
Chesapeake has more than 70 public parks spread throughout the city that are available for most everything from a leisurely walk in secluded nature to large scale special events. Ranging in size from neighborhood parks to district parks, park amenities include open play areas, age specific playground equipment, sports courts, picnic shelters and tables, dog parks, horseshoe pits, ball fields, and trails. Throughout the park system there are over 26 miles of multi-use trails for walking, jogging, cycling or just to relax and enjoy nature. There are also a number of leisurely water activities available including fishing and crabbing, boat ramps and piers, as well as unique opportunities with canoes, paddle boats, and kayaks. Chesapeake City Park is home to the award winning Fun Forest playground, a farmer’s market, and a newly renovated outdoor concert venue. The City’s largest park, Northwest River Park, offers a 66 site campground, miniature golf course, and an equestrian area, including eight miles of natural horse trails and a horse ring.
