The Gilmerton Bridge will be closed for bridge repairs. Work will take place from 8:00 p.m. Friday evening to 5:00 a.m. Saturday morning.

Come and enjoy some great jazz as Jae Sinnett, Ra Jazz, Jim Newsome, AS-1, and Forte Jazz entertain you for the evening on Friday, August 29, at Chesapeake City Park.

Gate opens at 5:00 p.m. and tickets are $25.

Proceeds will go to both the Dr. Clarence Cuffee Scholarship Fund and to the Chesapeake Regional Health Foundation.

Labor Day - City Holiday

City Offices Closed in Observance of Labor Day

All City of Chesapeake offices, courts and community centers will be closed on Labor Day, Monday, September 1.

Public Libraries will be closed on both Sunday, August 31, and Monday, September 1. Library book drops will remain open for the return of materials.

Trash: Trash normally collected on Monday will be picked-up on Wednesday, September 3.

"Under the Stars" Performance Series 2008

14th Annual Symphony UNDER THE STARS 2008 with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra will be held on Sunday, August 31st on the Buddy Bagley Stage, Chesapeake City Park.

FREE to the public.

Tidewater Pipe & Drums, including the Sheriff’s Pipe Band begins at 6:00 p.m.

Chesapeake Friends of the Arts (CFOTA) will host the Third Annual WINE FOR THE ARTS from 4:00 – 8pm.

Dog Park in City Park will be closed on Sunday/Monday, 8/31-9/1, due to fireworks.

School Supplies Drive

9th Annual School Supply Collection Drive

The Chesapeake Youth Committee (CYC) is sponsoring their annual School Supply Collection Drive, from Monday, 7/28 through Friday, 9/12.

Supplies, such as notebook paper, pencils, crayons, erasers, backpacks, pocket folders, composition books and notebooks will be donated to Chesapeake Public Schools Title I Programs.

Volunteers Needed for '08 Ghost Train at Northwest River Park

Are you interested in acting, set building, and scaring the daylights out of your neighbors, then this is the job for you! The Northwest River Park is seeking FUN LOVING volunteers now. Join us in the Activity Building at the Northwest River Park. Following meetings will be held every Thursday at 7-9:00 p.m. from September 4th - October 9th.

Chesapeake Rubber Duck Race '08

CHIP/Healthy Families of Chesapeake, a not-for-profit agency that serves young children and their families, presents the 2008 Chesapeake Rubber Duck Race on Saturday, 9/13 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Ten-thousand numbered rubber ducks will be available for adoption through 9/11.

The winner will receive a 2008 Nissan Versa. More prizes & other free fun family events include balloon animals, face painting, a jump house & more.

Portlock Galleries at SoNo's Current Photography Exhibit

Portlock Galleries at SoNo's is currently displaying Tuscan Summer, a photography exhibit by Bob Lerner (sample) and Betty Scott Owen (sample).

The exhibition will highlight the Tuscan region through two different viewpoints and continues through 9/7.

Lerner and Owen traveled to Tuscany last summer together for two weeks to create a series of new works.
