Council and Mayoral Elections

The Mayor and City Council members are elected for four-year terms by the people in general Mayoral and Council elections.

The council elections are held every two years, and the Mayoral elections are held every four years, on the first Tuesday in May to fill expiring terms.

The terms of Council members and the Mayor begin on July 1, following their election, and continue for a term of four years.

The Council chooses, by majority vote, one of its members to be Vice-Mayor.

The Mayor presides over Council meetings and is recognized head of the City government for all ceremonial purposes.

The Vice-Mayor, in the absence of the Mayor, will perform the duties of the Mayor.

In the event the position of Mayor should become vacant, the Vice-Mayor shall assume all of the duties and powers of the Mayor until the next general election.
