SPSA COVID-19 SERVICE ALERT
The SPSA Greenbrier Transfer Station has returned to normal weekend operating hours. Chesapeake residents may drop off residential household waste and yard waste at the Transfer Station on Saturdays from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., Sundays from Noon - 4 p.m., and Mondays from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Transfer Station Hours for Residential Customer Drop-offs
The Greenbrier SPSA transfer station is open for residential customers on Saturday from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., Sunday from noon - 4 p.m., and Monday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. NOTE: On Saturdays, all Chesapeake residents can drop off at the facility from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. SPSA-eligible residents who do not live in Chesapeake can drop off at the facility from 8 a.m. - noon. Only Chesapeake residents can drop off from noon - 4 p.m.
No residential customers will be allowed to dump Tuesday through Friday at any time. The expanded weekend hours provide more opportunities for residents to use the station at more convenient times, especially for weekend cleanup work. Alternatively, citizens also have access to the Suffolk SPSA transfer station during the week when the Chesapeake transfer station is restricted. The Suffolk SPSA transfer station is located off Route 58 at #1 Bob Foeller Drive, Suffolk, VA. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., and Saturday 8 a.m. to noon.
Commercial and small business waste haulers may continue to use the transfer station Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays 8 a.m. to noon. Hazardous Household Waste (HHW) can be dropped off every third Saturday and first Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon.
These changes are necessary due to the transfer station becoming congested during the work week, when commercial waste haulers and City waste collection vehicles need access to the station. Smaller vehicles and trailers from residential customers are often placed in dangerous positions working around large commercial and City vehicles, and cause traffic backups at the station. These traffic delays reduce the efficiency of City collection efforts, resulting in delayed collection times for residential municipal waste customers, additional avoidable City overtime expenses, and occasional exceedance of the site’s permitted daily waste disposal capacity.
These changes took effect Saturday, Sept. 3, 2019. For more information, please call the City of Chesapeake Customer Contact Center at (757) 382-CITY (2489).
