If there’s an emergency in Chesapeake, how would you find out about it? Do you follow us on social media or regularly check our website? That’s great for everyday city information but in the event of an emergency, we want to be able to reach you directly. That’s where Chesapeake Alert comes in.
Chesapeake Alert is the system we use to send phone calls, text messages, or emails when there’s an emergency in the area. This could be something like a severe weather warning, an evacuation order, or a police incident. If you sign up to be in the system, you can choose how and when we reach you. Are text messages better than phone calls? Do you prefer a call on your cell or your landline? You can make those choices when you sign up.
And it’s not just for emergencies. You can opt-in to receive a variety of community notifications such as travel advisories and Parks, Recreation and Tourism alerts. You have all the control about how and when you receive non-emergency notifications. If you don’t want any, you don’t have to sign up for them.
