As our population of senior citizens grows, so do crimes against them. Whether it be fraud, scams, or violent crimes, many criminals specifically target our seniors. The Chesapeake TRIAD/SALT Council hopes to empower older residents so that they can avoid becoming targets. The TRIAD/SALT Council is a collaboration between senior citizens, law enforcement, and other community partners. Their mission is to improve safety and security for seniors in Chesapeake through communication, education, and outreach.
The TRIAD/SALT Council hosts quarterly events on a wide variety of topics geared towards the senior community. Earlier this year they hosted a Senior Self Defense program. They recently hosted a CarFit seminar to keep seniors safe as they drive. Coming up in July they’ll host an event on emergency preparation. Each event is attended by law enforcement so it’s a great opportunity to get to know the men and women working to keep you safe every day. It’s also a great way to connect with other seniors.
