Alcohol is a part of many holiday festivities but it can come with a hefty price if not used responsibly.
If you choose to partake in alcohol, always have a plan ahead of time for how you’ll get yourself home. There are too many easy and accessible taxi-type options available to risk driving yourself after you’ve had a few drinks. The Chesapeake Police Department will be doing checkpoints throughout the season so not only is it a serious safety issue but you could land yourself in jail.
Consider why you’re drinking. Are you trying to cope with something stressful or unsettling? Do you have the holiday blues? There are better solutions such as exercise, a healthy meal, a chat with a friend, or perhaps therapy or medication.
If you’re concerned about your drinking or that of someone you love, there are resources available. You can call Chesapeake Integrated Behavioral Healthcare at 757-547-9334. You can also find helpful information at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration website, samhsa.gov.
