If you have more trash than your brown bin can handle and bulk waste just won’t do it either, you can bring your items to the SPSA Transfer Station in Greenbrier (901 Hollowell Rd), for free. They’ll take items such as fencing, construction materials, yard waste, and some small appliances. There are limitations to what and how much you can bring so be sure to check SPSA.com or give them a call at 757-420-4700 before you head over there. And don’t forget to bring proof of your Chesapeake residency.
The hours for residential drop off have changed recently. It’s now open for Chesapeake residents on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday from noon to 4 p.m., and on Monday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. If those times don’t work for you, Chesapeake residents can also visit the SPSA Transfer Station in Suffolk Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. You have lots of opportunities to get rid of that waste!
Keep in mind that these drop off hours are not for household hazardous waste materials such as paint, motor oil, and pesticides. Household Hazardous Waste drop off hours are still the first Wednesday and third Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon at the Greenbrier SPSA Transfer Station.
