Solar Energy Policy
On January 22, 2019, City Council approved an initiating resolution requesting the Planning Commission to consider solar energy facilities, including definitions and their proposed conditional use in specific zoning districts of Chesapeake. This is scheduled to be heard at the March 13, 2019, Planning Commission Meeting.
Prior to this initiating resolution, in July 2017, staff prepared a report to City Council detailing solar farms. The report included an overview of solar energy types, common concerns associated with solar farms, the permitting process, the sale of solar electricity, comparison to other municipalities, and policy recommendations.
