Freestanding Book Exchange Proposed Ordinance Amendments
On May 16, 2017, an initiating resolution was approved by City Council for the Planning Commission to consider and make recommendation for a proposed amendment to Section 14-1000 of the Chesapeake Zoning Ordinance for freestanding book exchanges, also known as "Little Free Libraries."
On November 14, 2017, City Council approved an amendment to Section 14-1000 of the Chesapeake Zoning Ordinance for freestanding book exchanges (also known as "Little Free Libraries"), which allowed for the following:
1) A reduction of setbacks from 5 feet to 2 feet from any public right-of-way
2) A required licensed agreement from the City prior to issuance of a permit if a freestanding book exchange is installed on municipal public property by a party other than a public entity
