Planned Unit Developments (PUDs)
A Planned Unit Development (PUD) is a site-specific zoning district where a tract of land is in a suitable location for the proposed uses and structures, which are to be planned and developed in a unified manner. Learn more about creating or modifying a PUD or deviating from existing PUD criteria.
The City of Chesapeake has 17 approved PUDs. Each PUD has its own development criteria approved by City Council that are in addition to the Chesapeake Zoning Ordinance (CZO). Most PUD developments have an Architectural Review Committee (ARC) that must review and approve residential building and accessory structure permits prior to review by the City. Check with you local Homeowner's Association (HOA) to learn more.
Copies of PUD development criteria and amendments are available below. Please note that these documents have been edited for size and accessibility and in most cases do not include the entire ordinance adopting the PUD or amendment. For additional information please contact the Planning Department at 757-382-6176 or planning@cityofchesapeake.net.
