NALF Fentress Encroachment Protection Acquisition Program
In 2005, Chesapeake began working closely with the military, state and federal agencies, and Virginia Beach to conduct a joint land use study for Naval Air Station Oceana and Naval Auxiliary Landing Field (NALF) Fentress. The study focuses on preventing or reducing potential conflicts between the military installations and their host communities. The study was designed to sustain economic vitality and accommodate new growth, but to avoid compromising the installation's operational missions or the public's health and safety.
To assist with the effort described in the background above, the Commonwealth of Virginia is providing limited funding to help acquire privately owned properties impacted by NALF Fentress and included in the Interfacility Traffic Area (ITA), the AICUZ Noise Contours of 65 LdN to over 75 LdN, the Clear Zone, and Accident Potential Zones (APZs) 1 & 2. Chesapeake is matching state funding on a dollar-for-dollar basis. In addition to the purchase of properties, the funding will also cover other costs associated with these transactions such as title searches, appraisals, environmental studies, among other items necessary for the closing. Through this program, the City has acquired six properties, including:
- Bradshaw Property at 1564 Mount Pleasant Road
- Hochstetler Property at 1653 Mount Pleasant Road
- Great Bridge Storage Property at 1736 Mount Pleasant Road
- VanLuik Property at 1102 Centerville Turnpike South
- Yoder Farm at 2500 Land of Promise Road
- Miller Property at 1620 Mount Pleasant Road
Ferratt Family Property at the 1700-1800 block of Mount Pleasant Road
The map below illustrates properties identified as eligible under the program guidelines.
Funding for this program is limited and is only available for a limited time.
