There is malware called VPNFilter going around the Internet that is designed to infect various models of home and small-business type routers. A router is the network device that connects your internal network to the Internet and acts as a basic firewall. The FBI says over a half million of these devices are believed to be infected. While your chances of having it on your device is low, the recommendation is to reboot your routers now to interrupt the malware if it does exist. To do this, just unplug it for 30 seconds and plug it back in to power. It is also recommended in all cases to change any default passwords on your device, set it so that only internal logins to it are allowed, and to keep up with firmware upgrades. On the City’s network we are protected by enterprise class firewalls, so this isn’t an issue here, but we do want to let you know about potential threats at home.
