Chesapeake Geospatial Data
The City of Chesapeake's Geographic Information Systems Business Unit makes much of the city's geospatial data available to public, private, and commercial interests. This data is now available for free and can be accessed from GIS's Open Data site. The site works best in IE9 or higher, Chrome, and Firefox browsers.
The data is grouped by categories. Aerial imagery is under the Rasters group. There is also robust search capabilities. The data can be previewed on the map and in tabular form prior to downloading. Search results can be refined by zooming in on the map or filtering by layer attributes. The data download formats are shapefile, spreadsheet, GeoJSON, and KML. The output projection for file downloads is WGS84 (EPSG: 4326).
For large datasets like parcels and topography, an extent box will draw in the preview map displaying the number of features. To see the features zoom in on the map.
