Elevators
New Elevator
The new installation of an elevator requires a mechanical permit. The permit holder or owner must secure a City certified third party elevator inspector to perform a final acceptance test/inspection. Upon completion of the inspection, the inspector will submit the final report to the City of Chesapeake's Building Official for approval.
A Certificate of Compliance will be issued upon the approval of a final acceptance report for a commercial elevator, escalator, or any moving device. In order to comply with the City Code and Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC), the Certificate of Compliance must be posted in or near the elevator.
A Certificate of Compliance is not required for a residential elevator.
