The Department of Chesapeake Parks, Recreation and Tourism is always looking for qualified contractors for its programs. The Department actively recruits for a specific program and also considers ideas from potential contractors. The following will outline the process of becoming a contracted instructor. The goal of the Department is to contract with highly qualified and motivated individuals that will increase the success and quality of the programs. Therefore, the Department screens contractors carefully. All contractors must submit to a background check.
What is an Independent Contractor
An independent contractor is an individual contracting her/his skills or services to the Department. An independent contractor is not an employee of the City, meaning the contractor is responsible for her/his own taxes and insurance.
How to Become an Independent Contractor
First, the individual must submit a resume and/or the Independent Contractor Application, an activity proposal form and detailed activity outline. An example of an outline has been provided for your convenience. Copies of certifications must also be submitted if applicable.
